Ed the Puppy

Recently, Ed the puppy came to live with Incredibly Understanding Wife and me. Ed is 10 months old, and is a Maltese-shih tzu mix. He is as cute as can be, and seems to understand intuitively that he is in charge of life as we know it.

Ed is a refugee puppy, left (along with other dogs) at the home of our friends. They were nice enough to host us for dinner recently, and there was Ed. At the end of the evening, Ed came home with us. We've been wanting a dog since Blarney and Alex, the Bassett Hound and Cocker Spaniel who used to live here, passed on to Doggie Heaven several years ago. But we didn't want two, and we felt guilty about leaving one alone while we went to work.

Now, IUW is retired, and is home most days, so she and Ed spend a lot of time together, which makes Ed deliriously happy. On the few days that I stay home (to telecommute, or because of appointments closer to home than to the office), Ed stares at me sternly, rebuking me for interrupting his routine.

Ed is short for Oedipus. He was named by his foster parents based on certain behavior which, if you'll recall your Greek mythology, will lead you to an understanding of why he got the name... anyway, it's a cute name, and a funny story, so we kept it.  Pictures to the right.
